Albert and Notre Dame (built 1913). In the winter months, when it becomes increasingly difficult to get out shooting, I sometimes find myself without new photos to post. When this happens I dig around in the archives for any forgotten gems that perhaps I missed the first time ’round.

So for the next couple of days, I’ll be posting some of these previously untouched ones.

A couple of years ago I was mildly obsessed with “Through the viewfinder” photography (Ttv), the process of photographing a scene with a modern DSLR camera through the viewfinder of an old twin lens reflex camera (such as the ever-popular Kodak Duaflex).

This shot of The Henderson Grocery, near Lockport, is a couple of years old and remained unprocessed until now. I stumbled upon it, and now I think I might have picked up the Ttv bug again….

Bannatyne Avenue (built 1895).Great stuff out of the Free Press today. A study conducted by a panel of out-of-town experts tells us that Winnipeg’s parking facilities are failing the city miserably (gasp!).Just for once, it would be great if hired gun experts could tell us something we didn’t already know.

Capri Motel
Pembina Highway.I don’t know why, but sometimes when I see this sign, I can’t help but think longingly about Rockin’ Ron and Nifty Natalie Pollock, who, like the Capri sign, are fantastic relics of a much simpler, gentler time.

Drink Pepsi-Cola
Notre Dame Avenue.I absolutely love this ad. Not only does it (and others like it) add color and texture to the Exchange District, it adds a layer of authenticity to the old-time vibe of the neighborhood. These ads should be protected, preserved, and–dare I say–touched up, when need be.
