I really like the Old Transcona Downtown strip, and the Kern Park neighborhood in general. It’s full of interesting structures, and really feels like it’s an independent little town (which it once was). From the top: The Royal George Hotel (Regent Avenue); Trancona Historical Museum (Regent Avenue, built 1927); St. Michael’s Catholic Church (Day Street); Whistle Pig Drive Inn (Victoria Avenue East); the impressive Archambault Pavilion (Regent Avenue); and finally, a little further off the main strip, another unusual church by Etienne Gaboury, Blessed Sacrement Church (Wabasha Street, built 1966).

Transcona Meats

Regent Avenue. Inspired by recent discussions at newwinnipeg.com, I took a drive down Regent to Downtown Transcona. It may be tiny, but the two or three blocks towards the end of Regent that comprise Downtown is a refreshing and vibrant little stretch. The highlight was this amazing (although badly in need of restoration) sign.
