Arthur Street (1900).I’ve spent a lot of time at the Artspace building over the years, in the seats of the Cinemateque Movie Theater. So many great films have played here–films that I would not have otherwise been able to see in a theater in Winnipeg–films like Heavenly Creatures, Toto Le Heroes, Delicatessen, The City of Lost Children, and I Shot Andy Warhol. There were also showings of classic films like Vertigo, Bob Dylan: Don’t Look Back and Meet The Feebles.
With the opening of the Globe Theater a few years ago (and featuring the same foreign and independent films), however, I’ve been frequenting Cinemateque less and less.
I’ve heard rumors that The Globe is on its last legs, which no doubt will mean a return to Cinemateque.
