From way up above, Central Park and its surrounding buildings comprise one of the most stunning views in the city. But as the gang-related shooting a couple of days ago suggests, all is not well in Central Park (the neighborhood–not just the park). The city recently announced that millions (5.6 million, to be exact) will be pumped into park upgrades, including restoration of the historic Waddell Fountain. I think this is fantastic, but I do wonder if the community would be better served if at least some of those funds were used to improve security in the neighborhood, rather than to improve the grass.
Thanks to my friend John for letting me hang out on his balcony for two hours taking photos. More coming tomorrow.
